DV Therapy’s Social Skills Program mission is to help clients develop social competencies to build stronger relationships with their peers.
- The program instructs students to engage successfully in social relationships with peers.
- Students will learn to interact with other students who share the same difficulties in establishing and maintaining social relationships due to lack of appropriate pragmatic skills.
- Lessons will be instructed by modeling, role play, rehearsals, and various activities such as games and storytelling.
- For Clinic Based: Parents will be required to attend Parent/Caregiver training at the same time children will be in session. During this time, parents will be instructed on how to carry over lessons, homework, and activities throughout the week. It is vital for parents to attend the meeting to grow rapport with other parents in order to arrange group phone calls and play dates. Parents will also be given weekly homework assignments via email to be completed throughout the week.
- Schools: The students, who may be at risk or has a social skills goal from IEP, will be pulled out from their classroom for a 60 minute small group lessons, 1x a week during school hours. Parent training will take place 2x/month for 60 minutes, the time and place TBD. During this time, parents will be instructed on how to carry over lessons, homework, and activities throughout the week. It is vital for parents to attend the meeting to grow rapport with other parents in order to arrange group phone calls and play dates. Parents will also be given weekly homework assignments via email to be completed throughout the week.
